Ethnicity Documentary

We all have different ethnicities. Even here in our small island of Oahu, and even more small, our school, Punahou. With so many different races and ethnicities, many issues come up. As an example not everyone likes all ethnicities. Most of us have gotten used to this, but some of us may still hold some grudge due to some type of stereotype.

For example, here in Hawaii there are many white and asian people. Even though most have become accustomed to each other, there are some asians who might dislike the white people and vice versa. This applies to all races, black, spanish, hawaiian, etc. Some people may make fun of others just because they are different. For example, Asians might get teased for having such small eyes, or the whites might get teased because they are blonde (dumb blondes).

Besides our looks, we might be teased because our accents are different. If you come from mexico, your english may not be that good. The same goes for Japanese, Chinese, and French accents. People cannot get used to the fact that we are all different, and there might be problems because of such things like racism. Even here in Punahou racism may be apparant. For some of us, the asians hang out with the asians, the whites with the whites, the blacks with the blacks and so on. Fortunately only a fraction of us feel this way. Most of us are fine with being associated with people that have different ethnicities than us.

We need to show the different sides of how some people are fine with it and how some people hide from different ethnicities and just sticks with their own kind. Especially since here in Punahou there are many different ethnicites. This would make for an interesting topic of how we all think of each other.

Reflection Cycle Paper 1

My cycle paper is just a brief paragraph that explains Punahou Schools history. Aside from its history, it tells information of what Punahou has now in the present. All in all, my paper just explains what Punahou has to offer, and just mainly information about the school.

Cycle 1 Paper

Punahou School was founded in 1841 for the children of the missionaries. It was originally known as "Oahu College" for some time. Now in the present, there is just about 3,700 people attending Punahou School. That makes it the largest independent private school in the whole United States. The kids that attend there are also very varied. There are mixed races and social ranks. Although every one has to pay the huge tuition price of around $15,000.

Punahou has many facilities and programs. There is their marching band which goes to the Rose Bowl every four years. There is also jewelry studios, darkrooms for photography, and glass blowing facilities. Punahou's sport system is also very well done and was acknowledged by Sports Illustrated in 2005. With over 20 sports to choose from, its easy to see why. The students have choices such as baseball, basketball, soccer, tennis, air riflery, paddling, volleyball, track and field, sailing, wrestling, judo and the list goes on.

Although Punahou is relatively old, there newest building, the Case Middle School, was recently just built. Named after Steve Case, a graduate of Punahou, for his generous ten million donation. Using state of the art technology, Case has facilities such as lights that turn on by motion sensor, air conditioners that turn off automatically if windows are open, etc. But it also uses simple things such as fluorescent lamps that save up to 75% of the electricity compared to the incandescent ones.

Punahou School has been here for around 15o years now, and it still stands tall, with much awards and achievements gained. Perhaps one of the best campus's in Hawaii, Punahou's staff and students will hopefully continue to shine.

Seven Ways of Looking at a Polar Bear

Along the surrouding glaciers,
Not a thing was seen,
Not even the roaming polar bear.

As the ice melts,
So must the polar bear be alert.

Why let the panda intrigue you?
The polar bears, believe it or not,
Are right in front of you.

I think to myself quitely,
Like the silent snow storms,
In which the polar bear endures.

The polar bear slips into the fridged water.
The ship crashes and destroys the glacier.

When the polar bear dissapears in the white snow,
it leaves an endless track of footprints
in which one may follow.

It was a sunny, cold, freezing day.
Snowing and stormy wind blew across the endless white.
The polar bear must rest in its home.
